Bollard series 114. Smart inboard diesel chine planing hull. Speed to about 18 knots. Twisted waterplane with reasonably flat transom. Designed for medium speed range to give good fuel economy. Photo says it all, a great little boat This medium speed aluminium workboat is based along the lines of the North American lobster boats, where the operating speeds vary from displacement speed to semi displacement speed and the transition between them is smooth and without the excess hump speed experienced in deep vee hulls.
This is achieved by keeping the beam/length down combined with extra fine lines forward, and a reasonably flat stern. This flat stern also allows a larger single and more efficient propeller and a lower shaft angle.
Hull plating is almost fully developable, and the only area requiring some work is the moderately flared bow above the chines.
5mm hull plating on flat bar frames
The chines have incorporated in them built in spray rail running for approximately 1/3 back from the stern.
The main engine shown is a single six cylinder Volvo Diesel rated at 141 HP at 3600 R.P.M. driving through a 1 1/2 : 1 down angle reduction gearbox and swinging a 400 mm diameter propeller. This is sufficient power to obtain a top speed of approximately 18 knots
