The Alloy Sea Cat
This new design came about after a lot of enquiries for a catamaran in the 5.5 - 6 metre range which could be powered be a couple of smaller (50-90hp) engines, have a towing weight of under 2 tonnes, be simple to build and still offer exceptional performance for offshore use. The basis of the design was the very popular "Two Up" catamaran which was first saw the light of day back in the 70's, about the same time I did. The simple construction method using aluminium angle cross structure and frames cut from full size templates meant it was quick and easy to build and this feature remains today.
The hull shape is based on the original but is a little fuller to allow for today's heavier (albeit much more efficient) four stroke motors, a larger fuel capacity and better accommodation. We get many enquiries from Northern Australia where anglers like to take their craft a long way from home and camp overnight (at least) on the boat before returning to home port. The increased fuel capacity and space allows for this.
Like the Alloy Sea Boat, it uses a fundamentally sound hull shape as the base for a variety of different configurations. The centre cab version is an excellent fishing platform with the stability and good ride offered from a catamaran. The half cabin can be built with a double bed or two singles depending on how the main bulkhead is set up.
The same hull can also be shortened to 5.5 metres and used as a runabout or centre-console style of boat by reducing the length by one frame.
Please specify on order your preferred version (5.5m centreconsole,6.1m half cabin or 6.1m Centre cabin)
