The design is available as a centre console, walk a-round, targa top or hard top cabin. Also available in an enlarged version on 2.8 metre beam for serious offshore work. Enlarged version up to 8 metres

Other Info:

Conventional construction consisting of 6mm thick frames and floor brackets on 4mm plating. Plans fully detailed, and include a simplified frame shape drawing andbuilding jig details.

Comments:

Specifically designed to provide a state of the art offshore stock plan design. The past ten years has seen the introduction of wave piercer type fast catamaran ferries around the world. This type of design was generally resulted with conventional designs having rather straight up-right stem profiles, which give excellent performance but are rather visually unattractive. The Mack Truck look as one designer put it. The Z Bow concept has the best of both worlds, an attractive appearance and good performance. Pioneered in Australia and many of the countries leading Naval Architects have spent time working on these designs, known within the NA profession as "Z Bows". Boden Boat Plans have combined with Waterline Technology Naval Architects to bring this state of the art technology to the small catamaran scene.

Thanks for your previous response; Given a desired length of around 18'-6" to 19' what is your advice on the choice of boats for mostly protected water (recreational fishing)i.e. which do you think is more suitable the Z Cat or the Two Up and what beam & power would be recommended at this length?

A lot of cats suffer from tunnel slap due to small sponsan size, how does the Z cat fare?
What height are the topsides from internal floor measurements?
Is it possible to install larger capacity or extra fuel tanks in a 7-7.5 metre Z cat for long range offshore?

are you aware of the wave-piercers done in St. Croix by Gold Coast Yachts and Roger Hatfield? They started at about 38 feet and went all the way to 104 foot but ran into structural problems at that size.

Am I right in assuming PDF details are the eclectronic version of the plans? Thanks!

Would it be possible to reduce the Z Cat to a length of sayn 5.4 (18')?

How would this alloy cat handle compared to a similarly sized fiberglass model?

what sort of engine shaft length should be used for rough off-shore applications

I would prefer to build in Baltek or a glass/foam sandwich panel. Pro's & Con's for the Z cat using these types of material?

I would like to build the cat out of steel would this be possiable and what would the weight difference be.

Is it possible to downsize this plan, so that a boat of 5.5-6.0m could be built.

This craft seems to be a new design, what are the benefits of the wave piercing design appart from the obvious asthetic improvements.

In regard to the aerial view I noticed that the 2 up has a rounded bow while the Z Cat has a chisel/wedge shaped bow which I prefer: Given both were going to be built at 6m which is your recommendation?

brian I looked at the z cat at displacement speed how would the two up (the extended length) It would be easy to build and i like the older look maybe i'm showing my age.I have finished building our house and are looking to fill the garage with a project

Does the pdf include pics of the zcat at speed? I am concerned about the performance of this specific hull compared to other zcats(getting to plane etc) I love the shape and want to build it. could you send me the 3d model that you have on the z cat page? Hi,I am looking for a boat plan approx 7m suitable for offshore fishing with plenty of room for 4.I am undecided as to go with a mono hull i.e. the sea boat or go with the z cat.Can you explain the difference in handling between the two,& what would be your choice

Are plans for for a larger Z cat, say in the 9m range with more beam??

Further to the hull design and performance; could the Z cat be built with conventional 'mack truck' bows with the same waterline length?
I am more interested in performance than looks and guess it would be a quicker build.

Are there any advantages other than the flash look of the wavepiercer compared to a conventional cat hull?

Would the Z be OK as a 7M with 2x140hp Suzuki 4 Strokes @ 191kg each and 600l of fuel (4x150l tanks).
I preferably want a trailable Cat but OK for extended trips. If OK. can you give me an indication (approximation) of its draught with these tanks full and in a hardtop config. but otherwise unloaded. Would it be advantageous to include (add) a wavebreaker during construction.

I have heard that some cats are ''WET''. How would you rate the Z Cat and the 2 Up?

Comparing the 2 up and the Z Cat will there be and differences with handling at:

1. Picking up buoys
2. Wharfs
3. Getting on and off trailers
4. Running up to a beach
5. One man handling

Why is the Z cat 300kg heavier (50%) than the 2up but only 0.7m (12%) longer? I under stand the plating is 4mm but is this on bottom only or sides as well? Is the structure also a heavier construction? How is the displacement less than the 2up?

hello there.

i am interested in fabricating an aluminium displacement cat between 6-8 meters. is the Z Cat full, semi displacement or planing please? are there other alternative plans?

the extended version of the z-cat sounds like a good first build but then i would be looking for one more in the 60 foot size , any chance of that in the future?
