Hi, Can you tell me the correct grade alloy to buy for building boats, I would like to know what you as a professional designer reccommend rather than a metal salesman who has a heap of a certain grade he is trying to sell.
PS Fantastic web site and look forward to building from your plans.
Chris in Perth Western Australia.

Good Afternoon Brian
I am keen on building an alloy seaboat in the 7.0 - 7.5 m length and am wondering if you are aware of anyone in the Yeppoon/Rockhampton area of Central Queensland who has undertaken such a project from one of your plans that I could contact to have a look at their boat and discuss the experience ? Congratulations on the website quality.
Regards - Dan Toon

G'day today i was offerred some 8mm 5083 H116 aluminium plate by an aluminium supplier.(he said it was dead stock from a backorder gone wrong). Could this be stripped into flat bar and used as material for the frames? i am assuming that it would not be suitable for use to plate up the bottom or sides becuase of the added wieght? would i be able to reduce the width of the frames to compensate for the added thickness ie; instead of 6mm by 80mm flat bar - 8mm by 60 or 70mm flat bar ?
