A cruising catamaran in steel seems to offer a new dimension to the home builder. The catamaran generally has been looked upon primarily as a light displacement craft. For those who are familiar with boating, they are extremely light and mobile. For a cruiser this condition is not feasible; the fact that there are weights associated with the accommodation and equipment, the necessity for stores and fuel and water make it essential that the cruising catamaran should be heavier and provide greater displacement. The cruising catamaran in steel complicates the position still further because in the building of smaller vessels in steel the tendency is for the weight of the hull to be heavier than would have been the case in timber or fibreglass.
