Comments:

A cruising catamaran in steel seems to offer a new dimension to the home builder. The catamaran generally has been looked upon primarily as a light displacement craft. For those who are familiar with boating, they are extremely light and mobile. For a cruiser this condition is not feasible; the fact that there are weights associated with the accommodation and equipment, the necessity for stores and fuel and water make it essential that the cruising catamaran should be heavier and provide greater displacement. The cruising catamaran in steel complicates the position still further because in the building of smaller vessels in steel the tendency is for the weight of the hull to be heavier than would have been the case in timber or fibreglass.

Hi I,m interested to know if any one has built this design in alloy and material sizes ect?? also if the design can be shortened by a metre. thanks Tim H

Hi - Can you tell me the approx weight of the hull if built in alloy? Also, do you have plans suitable for alloy as yet?

I am very interested in this design and was wondering two things. one is there anyone close to the west coast of canada who has or building one? Second what would the thickness of the steel be?

Hello, I am the owner of a Catrina steel catamaran. I purched this boa from Mr Sranton I belive the boat was built in Darwin and is the firet boat to be built to Boden Plans.
Would be abel to tell me how many boats were built and if possible there wear a bouts . Trying to build a bit of history on the design to do an article for a sailing mag. Any info would be of great help THANK YOU
RGDS Graham Millsto ask the question in

Can the Catrina be stretched? If so by how much?

Can you give me an indication what the cost will be to build the Catrina 11 and fit her out?

Hewadroom in saloon is 1.85 metres (6 foot) It could be increased by raising the cabin sides ans perhaps more camber

What is the expected speed under sail of the Catrina in the steel version and what is it in the Aluminum version?

I presume the aluminum version has a bit different shape to take into consideration the difference in displacement? what are the differences?

As it is a cruiser model what heating/cooling systems would be suitable?
A bit of a trick question I am a dealer of CLD/Webasto and Vetus...

Regards, Hjalmar

Hello I own a Catrina catamaran my question is
i would like to change my motors 15hp Kobotas back to the design of one motor and two hyd drives.
can you advise company in Queensland Australia to enquire about same
Thanks Graham

Hi could you please tell me why this catamaran has a ballast and is it completely necessary to have one on this design and if not what the hull draft and hull weight would be without one,

Hi
As i do alot of boating in large shallow open lakes,(gippsland alkes In Victoria Australia) can this cat be reduced in draft? if so by how much

I assume Catrina is designed for mild steel - would there be a significant weight savings if Corten steel was used?

Why are the alloy plans so high?
Do you offer any redesign service for the cabin/coachroof?

Instead of 3-4 mm mild steel can duplex be used in hulls to save weight, after stretching by 2 meters?

Hi, is this the only multi hull sail boat you have available? I am very interested in building a multi hull from aluminium. I have access to a cnc plasma cutter 3000x12000 bed capacity 50mm thick.

Cheers
Mal P

Hi someone has told me that if you build with Ali that you have to insulate against noise and temperature is this correct? Does not worry me but I would like to get all my facts together before deciding which boat to build. Thank Mal

Hi, I just purchased the syudy plans for the Catrina, and whilst there is some information in it it does not help me to do a resonable take off or costings exercise for the building of an aliminuim vessel. Can you please give me some indication of material size conversions to enable a fairly comprehensive take off for Aluminium? I will gladly forward on to you a copy of take offs for any furtheer enquiries you may have. Cheers Mal P

Hi Brian,

Hi Brian
How did you go at finding the information on the Aluminum take off for the Catrina?

Would it be possible to build this catamaran in ply/epoxy ??
